Freedom and Independence

Greeting Friends!
Though you may be reading this in June, I want to be the first to welcome you to July! In the United States, we traditionally celebrate freedom and independence during July. We’ll be getting a jump start this year because beginning tomorrow, June 30th, we are going to talk about a specific aspect of freedom.

What Does Freedom Mean to You?

So now I have a question for you…. What does “freedom” mean to you? In particular, how would your life be different if you had “financial freedom?” For the next four Sundays we’ll be exploring the spiritual Truth about financial freedom and prosperity. Let’s face it, money, or the lack of it, affects almost every aspect of our lives. And like everything else, money is simply a symbol of our life energy. Unity’s cofounder, Charles Fillmore, called this energy spiritual “substance.” Wouldn’t you like to get into a greater spiritual flow of abundance? We’re not here just to survive. We want to be fully alive!
We can look to Scripture for guidance but, when taken literally, there seems to be a contradiction. We recall the words of the Master Teacher as written in Matthew 25:29. Jesus said, “For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away.” With so much emphasis on income inequality between the rich and poor in our country, it seems natural to think that “we” have less because “they” have more. That doesn’t sound like financial freedom!
And yet, in the sixth chapter of Matthew, Jesus also assured people that they did not need to worry about what they would eat or drink, or about what they would wear. “Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all of these things will be given to you as well.” So, what is the Truth about financial freedom?

The Deeper Meaning

I believe we’ll find the answer when we go beyond the literal interpretation of Scripture. With metaphysical interpretation, the deeper meaning, one that is relevant to our lives today becomes clear to us. What does financial freedom look like for you? I hope you’ll join us as we delve in and reveal the spiritual Truth about financial freedom. Know the Truth, and it will set you free!
May you find the freedom to live abundantly and generously. May you be fully alive!
Much love,

Rev. Cindy
